The New York Landmarks Conservancy Annual Sacred Sites Open House, July 12, 6 – 8 PM

[NY Landmarks Conservancy] Please join us for the kickoff of our 12th annual Sacred Sites Open House with a talk, tour, and reception on July 12th from 6-8PM at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, 980 Park Avenue (at 84th Street). This year’s Open House, our first in-person event since 2019, will be held July 23rd-24th with more than 100 houses of worship participating throughout the State. Coinciding with this year’s theme, “Open Doors,” the evening will include remarks about why religious buildings matter to neighborhoods and the importance of opening doors with Rev. Dr. Malcolm Byrd of Mother AME Zion Church, Rabbi Serge Lippe of the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, and Fr. Dennis Yesalonia, S.J., Pastor of St. Ignatius.  Following the presentation, Acheson Doyle Partners Architects will conduct tours of the building which was dedicated in 1898. The firm is also leading the Church and Day Nursery’s comprehensive restoration and modernization. St. Ignatius is both a New York City Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Simultaneously, there will be a reception in Wallace Hall. Musical accompaniment will be provided by organist David Enlow on the historic Mander Organ courtesy of Acheson Doyle.
