More than five years after a three-alarm fire destroyed a Manhattanville supermarket and laundromat, construction has resumed on the site at 1440 Amsterdam Avenue. DNAinfo reported that residents were devastated by the news and worried about where they would shop for food now, but owner Lefkas Realty has already thought of that: According to permits filed with the city, the new building’s 10,000+ square feet of retail space will be devoted to a supermarket.
