The West Harlem Community Preservation Organization, Inc. is a membership organization founded for the purposes of:

(a) The preservation, celebration, and strengthening of the physical and cultural community of West Harlem, and its diverse peoples, through the provision of instruction, guidance, and training in community-building skills, organizational skills, business skills, and other relevant training to West Harlem community organizations and citizens;

(b) The development and execution of informational, educational, social and cultural projects, programs, and publications of or concerning West Harlem residents, their gifts and cultures, with the goal of strengthening ties within the West Harlem community among its constituent groups;

(c) The preservation and development of the physical and economic fabric of West Harlem by the development, analysis, problem-solving and execution of programs designed to b ring skills, cooperative conduct, and expertise to residents of West Harlem;

(d) The enhancement and exploitation of the resources available in West Harlem for the benefit of residents of and businesses in West Harlem;

(e) The development in West Harlem of newly emerging technologies and resources in order that residents of and businesses in West Harlem may make full use of such new developments in carrying out the other purposes of the Corporation;

(f) The solicitation of grants, contributions, and donations of money, goods, merchandise and other property of all kinds, whether real, personal and mixed, by private or public appeal, by advertisement or by any other lawful means for any corporate purposes, and

(h) Notwithstanding any other provision of this certificate of incorporation, the Corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes as specified in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, Section 202 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, in the by-laws of the Corporation, and elsewhere in the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.
